In November 2020 we started our flock with three sheep, purchased from a local farmer who raises Finn Sheep. I am frequently asked "why did you chose Finn sheep?". I spent many hours researching just the right breed for our little farm. My first criteria was excellent fleece fiber! So, I spun several different types of fleece until I found the Finn fiber and fell in love. But, I also wanted a smaller sheep that I knew I could handle going into my older years. I wanted a primitive breed of sheep verses an "improved" breed. I wanted a fleece with different textures for different uses for spinning to knit and weave with. I wanted a friendly sheep (and oh boy are they friendly!!). We've had our ups and downs over the past two years, but we work things out one day at a time!
And quickly our flock grew! Our first baby to come to us was Daisy! Now, she is not a Finn. Our friend Colin called us and said he had a set of twins and one was not thriving. Did I want to try and save her and if so we could keep her. So, we tube feed her for a couple of days and then she took to the bottle, so our first lamb joined our family! I call Daisy "my crazy cross breed" because she is a cross of Southdown, Jacob, and Icelandic breeds. But, she is a sweetie! Here she is on January 16, 2021 at one days old.
And in one month, she's getting hard to hold, but she sure loved the snow
